Maybe, but only if you have some very special skill or expertise or are unusually lucky.
In the lucky department, maybe 50 years ago, on my first visit to Reno Nevada, I tried my luck with a dollar bet on KENO, which is sort of a lottery where you pick the numbers. On my very first bet I won $100. And you’d need to add at least a zero more to get the value today. That is a long way from a million. YET: Certainly someone, somewhere in the world can win a million with a small bet. That is not entirely from ”scratch.” The odds of winning a million on a small bet are so small that it is extremely unlikely that any reader of this answer will ever be among the winners in a lottery of a serious amount.
In my own story, feeling that I was lucky, I made many more bets during my stay in Nevada. That is what happens once you win! For your information, I came out WAY behind, overall. Thus, I would not recommend gambling in casinos , the stock market, Forex, options or the like. You won’t win, and if you do, you will keep playing until you lose it all.
However, by getting to special skills, it is possible even likely that you could make a million or even a lot more. I did make a million a month, for a while, in a little know business I wrote about later. Tracing missing heirs to unclaimed estates —but never made a million on any single case. But if I had found an unclaimed estate or property worth over $3 Million —which is much more common today, I might have made a million or more on one case.
Someone I knew, a competitor of mine in that tracing missing heirs to unclaimed property —he made maybe $100 Million on one case. True story. Here’s what happened:
A lady named Dora Mar passed away in Paris. She had been the girlfriend of Pablo Picasso for many years. When she died with “unknown heirs,” the French government escheated (confiscated) her hundreds of original Picasso oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, etchings. Apparently they were all together, worth around a BILLION dollars. As mentioned, already then, I had written my book about tracing missing heirs. A relative newbie in the business managed to use the methods in my heir tracing manual info to find Dora Mar’s missing heirs. As I recall, they were distant cousins in Argentina who had never heard of her. In a deal involving the French government, the heirs and the heir tracers, there was a three way split, with the tracers and the heirs ending up with cash, and the Paris Picasso Museum ending up with all or most of the art.
The bottom line, to answer the question, is that it is possible, even likely for someone to make very large sums if they have some particular skills or expertise in a special niche. It is virtually impossible to make money by sitting on your butt and not doing anything. Making serious money in your own business is infinitely more likely than winning a lottery. People who have created popular computer games or apps have made millions. People who have marketed franchises like Starbucks, KFC, Jolly Bee (restaurants) are just a few, or Zara and Benetton (clothing). Others have made it in call centers, language teaching, and too many other businesses to count. Real estate supposedly had made more millionaires than all other businesses combined. It is an easy field to enter and you can start from scratch. But making money requires diligence, persistence and yes, a degree of expertise that can be gained in many ways: By working for others, by attending good seminars, by reading books and taking courses —but mostly by being motivated and not afraid to go out into the world and make offers and deals.
I also made well over a million in real estate deals, Now I am not trying any more and I make very little from the ”How to” books I have written on the subject of heir tracing, distress property, or (Think Like A Tycoon) real estate and Portable Trades & Opportunities — life in general.
Once I retired, I had nothing better to do that to write these books and answer questions. What is nice about being financially independent and retired, is that you can do what you want to do whether it earns a lot of money or not. It is exceedingly unlikely I will ever make a million a month again, but that is for lack of making any effort in that direction. I am making my own kid read my books and follow my advice. He is not as hungry as I was when I was his age. Motivation makes all the difference! In a couple of years, I will let my followers know if he was able to ever make a million in a month using little or no capital and only his wits and knowledge he got from me and others.
Final comment: Yes it is very possible to make a million a month, but IMO, less than 1% of the population will ever make the effort, have the necessary knowledge to take advantage of the opportunities all around them. How many reading this would have been able to make $100 million after reading a headline that Dora Mar died with a vast collection of Picasso’s and no known heirs?
